Our Story
Founded by Sean McLaren more than 40 years ago, McLaren’s Antiques & Interiors is rooted in a passion for furniture and a love of travel.
A trailblazer from an early age, Sean discovered his love of antique furniture in 1971. Antiquing was in his blood––his parents owned their own business in Shropshire, England and Sean began buying and selling himself at the age of eight. By the time he was 15, his own inventory of antiques surpassed his parents, and he went into business.
In time, Sean began to design many ranges of his own furniture. English born and bred, he utilized his vast wealth of knowledge of residential and industrial buildings in the UK to save the precious timbers from 150+ year old buildings being demolished. A visionary, Sean saw the potential of these beautiful reclaimed timbers and designed kitchen islands and tables (ranging in size from six feet to an awe-inspiring 22 feet)––all handcrafted at the McLaren’s workshop in England to ensure no two pieces are ever the same and the beauty of the patina of the wood shines through.
Sean also began to combine his passion for furniture with a love of travel, which took him all around the globe in the pursuit of the unique and interesting to stock his stores in England and Texas. Travels through France, Italy, and Spain revealed a wealth of 19th Century furniture: interior doors, exterior gates, Spanish wine pots––all seeped with character and warmth. Sean fell in love with India for its variety of stunning architecture threaded with reflections of British influence from the 18th to 20th centuries as well as intricately carved 17th century pieces such as palace doors and columns. These adventures and more brought the discovery of many treasures and quickly garnered McLaren’s Antiques & Interiors a reputation for an enormous variety of antique, industrial, and architectural furnishings from around the world.
In 2013, McLaren’s transitioned to selling at America’s two largest antique markets: Round Top, TX and Brimfield MA, with Round Top becoming McLaren’s global headquarters and Sean and his wife Helen’s, second home.
Returning customers are always thrilled with the ever changing inventory. First-timers find themselves in awe of the treasure trove. Designers and wholesale buyers love McLaren’s for their wide selection (everything from kitchen islands to seating, from crystal chandeliers to artwork and accessories) and great trade discount, making the store an easy resource for them to find nearly anything their clients need. With pieces ranging in size from delicate English china to colossal antique doors, it’s alluring for designers, shop owners, and architects as well as individuals who are just looking for a little something special to bring home from Texas’ iconic antique market.
Today, the McLaren family carries on the tradition Sean started, exploring the world and hand-picking unique and interesting interiors to offer an enormous variety of antique, industrial, and architectural furnishings from around the globe. Customers come from all over to visit their 23,000 square foot showroom. The Round Top staple has helped furnish the homes of individuals, household name storefronts, and even one of America’s premiere resorts.
